TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Amiruddin Zakaria--the presiding judge of the South Jakarta District Court in the trial of House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker and Golkar party chairman Akbar Tandjung, told TEMPO News Room on Friday afternoon (5/4) that Akbar’s detention had been lifted. As reported earlier on TEMPO Interactive, Tandjung was placed under detention for being allegedly involved in the embezzlement of Rp 40-billion non-budgetary funds belonging to the State Logistics Agency (Bulog). The reasons given for the detention being lifted were that a guarantee has been made by Tandjung’s wife Krisnina Maharani and that Judge Zakaria is convinced Tandjung will not create any problem as regards the trial process. Judge Zakaria denied that the lifting of the detention order on Tandjung was related to a recent meeting between Golkar party members and Attorney General or due to pressure made by Golkar members. “No. This has absolutely nothing to do with Golkar,” he said. According to Judge Zakaria, the judges are convinced that Akbar Tandjung will not create any difficulties as regards the trial process. However, up to now the judges have not lifted the detainment orders on the other two suspects in the Bulog case, Winfried Simatupang and Dadang Sukandar.(Sapto Pradityo--TEMPO News Room)
