TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Fisheries and Marine Affairs Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said that Rp 3,000 trillion of state losses due to illegal fishing was made based on valid calculation and not just a made up number. "The Rp 2,000 to Rp 3,000 trillion of state losses is not a marked up number," Susi said during the Chief Editor Meeting on Tuesday, June 23, 2015.
Susi said that preventing such large losses is important to allow Indonesia's maritime infrastructure to be improved.
Previously, Minister Susi has asked that 60 percent of the maritime sector budget to be allocated for the sector's stakeholders rather than infrastructure. "I want to see 60 percent of the budget to be allocated to the stakeholders, which are fishermen and fish farmers," said Susi on Monday, June 22, 2015.
Susi said that the government should have provided a higher budget for the Directorate General of Fishery (KKP), especially for improving fishermen's tool.
