TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission II has threatened to postpone regional elections if the General Elections Commission (KPU) is unable to explain the results of an audit by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) in 2014.
“Around Rp334 billion were used without accountability. This makes the KPU’s capability in holding elections become questionable,” said Misbakhun, Commission II member from the Golkar Party, on Monday.
Previously, the BPK has submitted the KPU audit results to the House. The results found state losses of Rp13,755 billion, indicated state losses of Rp20.539 billion, budget waste of Rp93 billion, administrative errors of Rp185 billion, etc.
The BPK’s total audit results is Rp334 billion, which was used by the KPU in 2014 and not in line with a good budget management system.
Arwani Thomafi from the United Development Party (PPP) also questioned KPU’s responsibility over the results. According to Arwani, even though the findings were detected in KPU offices in provinces, regencies and cities, the central KPU has the responsibility to take action towards the findings.
“The 2015 regional elections are a strategic moment to improve the KPU's performance. If the KPU is not 100 percent ready for the elections, then they should say so. Maybe we can delay [the elections] in several regions,” said Arwani.
