TEMPO.CO, Semarang – The Central Java Provincial Broadcasting Commission (KPID) has called on TV stations to limit the broadcasting of the marriage of Gibran Rakabuming—the eldest child of President Jokowi—and Selvi Ananda in Solo on Thursday, June 11, 2015.
The Central Java KPID said TV stations using public frequencies should not be excessive in airing the marriage of an individual.
“Actually there is no problem with TV stations airing it, but it will become a problem when the broadcasts are excessive,” Central Java KPID official Asep Cuwantoro told Tempo in Semarang on Thursday, June 11, 2015.
He added that the airing of an event involving a public figure had always been interesting, so long as it was carried out “professionally with the aim of providing information to the public.”
Asep said Gibran’s wedding seized the public limelight because of his status as Jokowi’s son, but disproportionate broadcasting of his marriage would be a problem due to the private nature of the event, which was not of the public’s interests.
