TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama evaluated Bank DKI boards of directors and commissioners following its recent loss of Rp 1 trillion (around US$76.9 million), particularly due to non-performing loans.
"It seems that the management [of Bank DKI] has done nothing about that. They're very slow. I've been patient over the last two and a half years. So we will evaluate the boards of directors and commissioners," Ahok said at the State Palace on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.
According to Ahok, the loss sustained by Bank DKI occurred since the bank distributed loans for companies that were not included in the city's development plan, causing the non-performing loan ratio to increase and fail to generate profits.
In addition to evaluating the boards, the Jakarta administration will also allocate a capital injection of Rp 11.5 trillion in order to improve the bank's category.
"Great bankers wouldn't be attracted to work for a city-owned bank. Therefore we will provide a capital injection. We would like to convince great bankers to help Bank DKI to improve its category," Ahok added.
