TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo was scheduled to launch the 35,000 MW electricity program at Pantai Samas, Yogyakarta, on Monday, May 4, 2015. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said explained that Pantai Samas was chosen as the location of the program launch since a wind power plant (PLTB) with a capacity of 50 MW is being built in the area.
“We’re writing a new chapter in the history of renewable energy in Yogyakarta. It reflects our commitment to develop renewable energy,” Sudirman said on Sunday, May 3, 2015 in Yogyakarta.
The development of the wind power plant, Sudirman added, will last for three years and will be fully operational in 2018. Sudirman explained that the wind turbine in the area would neither disrupt flights nor parasailing activities.
Amin Subekti, director of the State Electricity Company (PLN) said the 35,000 MW program cosists of 20,000 MW steam-fueled power plants that would require an additional of 80-90 tons of coal per year, 3,700 MW renewable power plants and 13,000 MW gas-fired power plants.
“These will require an additional demand of 1,100 BBUTPD gas, excluding the current 1,250 BBUTPD,” Amin said.
Amin added that the 3,700 MW electricity will consist of 1,200 MW geothermal power plant, 2,400 MW hydro power plant, and 120 MW wind power plants.
