TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Green investments in Indonesia are targeted to reach US$56 billion or around Rp722.8 trillion in 2019. “It means that the growth is 20 percent a year,” said Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chief Franky Sibarani on Wednesday.

In 2010-2014, the total green investment realization was 30 percent of Indonesia’s investments in total. Last year, green investment value reached Rp486 trillion compared to the total of incoming investments, which stood at Rp1,600 trillion. From those figures, foreign companies still dominated with US$26.8 billion or Rp345.9 trillion, while domestic companies saw Rp139.1 trillion.

Franky said eight potential sectors for green investments are agriculture, forestry, fishery, geothermal energy, manufacturing industry, electrification from renewable sources, waste management and recycling and ecotourism.

Franky added that environmentally-friendly investments and industrial development have become a global trend. For that, Indonesia will draw on this opportunity to promote green investments when hosting the Tropical Landscape Summit by presenting potential green investments on April 27-28 in Jakarta.

Franky continued that the summit was strategic for Indonesia to become a role model for sustainable green economic development. “Accelerating green infrastructure development needs a significant cost."

Franky further said the summit would hopefully become an opportunity for Indonesia to lure both domestic and foreign investors.
