TEMPO.CO, Makassar – South and West Sulawesi Police chief Insp. Gen. Anton Setiadji said three regions in the provinces had once been turned into training grounds for terrorists.
The three regions are Walenrang, Luwu regency; Siwa mountainous area in Wajo regency—both regencies are in South Sulawesi; and Mambi, Mamasa regency in West Sulawesi.
“There is no training ground anymore, just in the past,” Anton said on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi have now become hideouts for fugitive terrorists with links to Santoso’s and Daeng Koro’s cells.
Anton said many areas under his jurisdiction had transformed into terrorists’ hideaways, but stopped short of naming them. “I cannot extend that [information],” he said.
He said the South and West Sulawesi Police would amplify supervision and surveillance on all areas in its jurisdiction, particularly in light of the arrest of suspected terrorist Ambo Ece, 35, in Bulutironge, Pitumpanua district, Wajo regency in South Sulawesi on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at around 6:30 a.m. local time.
Ambo Ece is known as an accomplice of terrorists Santoso and Daeng Koro and a member of the Eastern Indonesia Mujahidin. Among his terror acts was the murders of two policemen—Adj. First Insp. Sudirman and Brig. Andi Sapa—in Tamanjeka, Poso. Ambo Ece joined paramilitary training in Poso and Walenrang.
