TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said the plan to acquire former British Embassy’s property will be realized this year. According to Ahok, the Jakarta administration and British Embassy’s representatives have agreed on the acquisition terms.
“We have sent a letter. The process will be carried out this year,” Ahok said at City Hall on Friday, April 17, 2015.
City administration’s plan to acquire the property was initiated at the end of last year after the British Embassy was relocated to Kuningan, Jakarta. Ahok said the city administration has earmarked Rp 500 billion (US$38.5 million) to acquire the property located at Bundaran Hotel Indonesia, Central Jakarta.
Ahok revealed that the city administration has planned to turn the property into an open green space, in addition to Mass Rapid Transit’s dispatch.
Ahok said the MRT dispatch will be accessible for public in order to introduce the MRT system to people.
“The [MRT] dispatch can also serve as a tourism object for Jakartans,” Ahok said.
