TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A jamu (traditional Indonesian herbal drink) cafe a metropolitan mall is certainly an odd sight for the public. However, Paviliun 28 Theater in Gandaria City Mall decided to went against the current trend by serving jamu as its main beverage instead of coffee and other imported dishes.
Adopting a theme of culinary cinema, the newly opened Paviliun 28 presents an eccentric view with a vintage rural coffee bar design paired with high quality classic furniture such as rattan chairs.
For the drinks, operational Manager Nia Samantha said that they are using 'Jamu Iboe', a brand of herbal drink produced in Surabaya. The cool outlook and presentation of the jamu serves as one of the attraction of the cafe, which managed to attract plenty of young, casual customers.
Insisting on presenting traditional rural menu, Paviliun 28 also offers traditional domestic culinary such as fried cassava and 'sego kucing' (rice packed in banana leaves). However, the idealism impacts on their collection, boasting only few if not many.
Aside from the cafe's menu, Paviliun 28's main attraction is its mini-amphitheater which can accommodate 30 to 40 people at once. With an affordable rent of Rp 350,000 per hour and a wide collection of movies, Paviliun 28 can certainly be the new breed of entertainment venue.
