TEMPO.CO, Denpasar – The Denpasar Cooperatives and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises said only ten percent of the micro and small-scale enterprises that had secured the micro and small-scale enterprise permit cards (IUMK), which launched in the Bali’s capital in late February this year.

Made Erwin Suryadarma Sena, the agency’s chief, explained the figure was only from the West Denpasar area.

“The number of IUMK holders is still so small. We are still disseminating information about the program that explains how easy it is to obtain these permits for micro and small-scale enterprises,” he said on Monday, April 13, 2015.

He said his agency was still promoting this program in East Denpaar, North Denpasar and South Denpasar to boost the number of IUMK holders.

“The people should make the most of this good opportunity, which is easy and free of charge, so they don't miss out on IUMK cards,” he said.

According to him, many micro and small-sized enterprises were still entangled in the misperception that applying for such permits would mean going through bureaucratic red tape—whereas it only required letters of recommendations from sub-district heads, which would then be processed in district offices and state-owned Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) branches prior to the cards’ issuance.

“Presently, there are some 1,500 business units in Denpasar that become our target in promoting this IUMK program,” he said.
