TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bogor Police Precinct predicted that traffic congestion at Puncak will continue until Sunday night, April 5, 2015, due to a large number of people spending the long weekend that coincide the Easter holiday.

“Starting from Friday, tens of thousands of cars and motorcycles have packed Puncak,” Adj. Comr. Bramastiyo Priaji, the head of traffic unit at the Bogor Police Precinct said on Saturday, April 4, 2015. “Every four hours, the number of vehicles increased by 5,000 units.”

Bramastiyo said Police has monitoring the traffic congestion since Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m.

“A long queue has occurred starting from Ciawi Toll Gate to Gadog Fork and Puncak,” Bramastiyo added.

Bramastiyo said that Police had to apply one-way lane to reduce the congestion. On the holiday and Sunday, Bramastiyo added, the one-way lane will be applied in the morning for vehicles coming from Jakarta. Police will prioritize vehicles coming from Puncak to Jakarta in the afternoon.

Bramastiyo revealed that more than 60,000 vehicles from Jakarta headed to Puncak on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at 10:00 a.m, increasing by 30 percent when compared to the regular day.

“A total of 60,214 vehicles from Jakarta exited the city via Ciawi Toll Gate and there were 32,562 vehicles heading to Jakarta from Puncak and Sukabumi,” he said.
