TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Water operator PT Aetra Air Jakarta has planned to lodge an appeal against the Central Jakarta District Court’s verdict next week, Aetra corporate secretary Pratama S. Adi told Tempo on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Pratama revealed the company’s disappointment over the court’s ruling terminating the cooperation between Aetra and PT Perusahaan Air Minum Jaya (PAM Jaya) albeit the agreement had been approved by then Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama in 2012.

“We should have had higher values. We also have shown better performance since 2012,” Pratama said, adding that Aetra had served Jakarta since 1997.

The agreement between Aetra and PAM Jaya was to expire on January 31, 2023.

According to Pratama, Aetra has served eastern parts of the capital by distributing 9,000 cubic meter of water to customers in a second. In 2014, the company distributed 162 million cubic meter of water to customers.

The Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, ruled in favor of the Coalition of Jakarta Residents Opposing Water Privatization. The panel of judges also issued a verdict terminating the cooperation between Aetra, PAM Jaya and Palyja that had been enforced since 1997.

Despite the verdict, Pratama said, the company would keep on supplying water to residents before the decision became final and binding.
