Jakarta Prepares for Asia-Africa Summit

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A conference dubbed the 2015 Asia-Africa summit (KTT) will be held in Jakarta and Bandung, which falls on April 19 to 23, 2015. To support the event, the city administration is conducting some preparation, ranging from street infrastructure and accommodation for foreigners guest.


Deputy of Jakarta Governor for Cultural and Tourism Division, Sylviana Murni stated her party has coordinated with some ministries related to the implementation of KTT Asia-Africa.


"The point is we really support the event, including undertake the request by smoothing street along Jalan Thamrin-Sudirman. No more potholes," she said, at City Hall, Tuesday.


However, she cannot ensure it will be 100 percent because there is construction of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) on such both streets.


"Nevertheless, we will coordinate with the Bina Marga Department and MRT side. At least, we can eliminate potholes on the streets," she expressed.


Meanwhile, the streets are requested to be installed with pictures related to the KTT. According to her, the MRT side has agreed the request to support the event.


While for accommodation, there are 18 hotels in Jakarta for the guests. Some regional working units (SKPD) would also be involved in accordance with their respective field.


Security for instance, the city administration plans to deploy Satpol PP as well as Transportation and Education Department officers. Besides that, the Foreign Ministry asked Education Department to involve students.


“Students can be involved as long as it does not disrupt their learning time. They are going to visit to the JCC in the KTT meeting by bringing flags of the Asia-Africa and Indonesia,” he uttered.


Meanwhile, Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department is focused on the event of Jakarta Abang-None pageant, welcome dance and music. As planned, the meeting will be held on April 21 to 22 in JCC Senayan and Gala Dinner in Presidential Palace. Based on the information, there are 109 countries which were invited, and 85 of them have declared to attend, including 25 participants who will present their president.
