TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said on Tuesday said the closed distribution of three-kg Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) canisters would be conducted this year so as to meet the nation's gas distribution target.
Sudirman said state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina would handle the distribution with the support or local governments, whose task was to supply data on who were entitled to purchasing the LPG.
People can only buy three-kg LPG canisters at gas stations (SPBU). “Pertamina only gives gas to those who are registered,” he said.
Three-kilogram LPG canisters have been scarce in several regions, causing its prices to rocket by Rp20,000 per canister. In the long run, Sudirman promised of direct gas transmission to houses through pipes with the quota system.
He claimed this system was successfully implemented in Semarang and some regions in Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek). Transmission procurement, however, will take a long time and requires large investment. “We will ask for aid from the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry,” he said.
