TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD DKI Jakarta) has finally decided to exercise its rights of interpellation and inquiry on the Jakarta Budget plan for 2015 fiscal year. All factions, except the National Awakening Party (PKB), have agreed to exercise their political right.

“More than 75 percent of the members have agreed to exercise the inquiry right,” Prabowo Soenirman, member of the Budgetary Board at the Jakarta Legislative Council, said on Sunday, February 22, 2015.

According to Prabowo, the decision was made as Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has allegedly violated the Government Regulation Number 58/2005 on Regional Financial Management. Based on the regulation, the budget plan submitted to the Home Affairs Ministry must be consistent with that agreed between the regional government and the City Council.

Therefore, the city council was planning to exercise the inquiry right, which could lead to Ahok’s impeachment.

“We’ll exercise the inquiry right because Ahok has clearly violated the regulation. It’s a crime,” Prabowo said, claiming that Ahok had frequently violated the code of ethics as a public official.
