TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) reported that the country’s maritime sector has attracted investors to make investment in Indonesia.
BKPM chairman Franky Sibarani said that at least five investors have expressed their interest to make investment in the sector.
The investors are from Australia, the United States, Japan, South Korea and China.
“Three of them have stated their commitment to make investment worth US$9.3 billion (Rp119 trillion),” said Franky.
Franky also gave a positive response to the investment because two of the three investors are shipbuilding companies.
He also said that the government was focusing on shipbuilding industries, especially industries outside Batam island.
“Exemption of import duty and reduced taxes have been approved by the government as an incentive for shipbuilding companies,” Franky said.
Franky further said that the government hoped the incentive could make shipbuilding companies evenly spread all across Indonesia.
“We continue to monitor the investment process so that it can immediately materialize,” he said.
However, he said based on the BKPM data, to date, there no domestic investors who have reported their intention to make investment in the maritime sector.
