TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trimedya Panjaitan, an Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) lawmaker-cum-deputy chief of theThe House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission III, which oversees law and human rights, has urged President Joko Widodo to immediately inaugurate Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan as the National Police chief following the announcement of the South Jakarta District Court's fresh ruling that scrapped Budi's status as a graft suspect.
“Jokowi is obedient to the law. Moreover, the court has decided,” said Trimedya on Monday. He also said the sole judge in Budi's pretrial hearing had asked all files related to the latter's case to be returned to the National Police headquarters.
Trimedya said the commission would also hold an internal meeting to discuss the verdict and ask the House to urge President Jokowi to inaugurate Budi Gunawan.
Judge Sarpin Rizald has ruled in favor of the lawsuit filed by Budi Gunawan, who was named a graft suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Sarpin said Budi Gunawan’s status as a graft suspect was not in accordance with the regulations. The judge also ruled that Budi was not a state official and the KPK had failed to prove that Budi had incurred state losses.
