TEMPO.CO, Bogor - President Joko Widodo wants to have more foreign tourists visiting Indonesia, saying the country has cultural diversity that could be used to attract visitors from other countries.
"Supposedly, when compared to neighboring countries, we could do better," the president better known for his portmanteau, Jokowi, said in a press conference at the Bogor Palace on Monday, February 16.
Jokowi and a number of ministers will hold a discussion on the development of domestic tourism this morning, focusing on good tourism brand to bring as many tourists as possible.
One way to attract tourists is to hold routine events. Another strategy is to develop small economies and rural products that "will have a major impact on the economy," he said.
After the meeting on tourism, today Jokowi and several economic ministers will meet China Ambassador Xi Peng around noon. Tonight, the president will have dinner with his VP Jusuf Kalla and 34 cabinet ministers.
