TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dwi Ria Latifa, a politician from the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) said that the party will continue to support President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. Latifa added that PDIP will support Jokowi in addressing the issues with Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan’s nomination as the National Police Chief.

However, the PDIP called on Jokowi not to violate the constitution in electing a new National Police Chief.

“The impact would persist in a very long time if the president violated the constitution,” Latifa said in a discussion held by Sindo Radio.

According to Latifa, Budi is more than qualified to be appointed as the National Police Chief since the House of Representatives had given its approval. Latifa also regretted the decision made by the Corruption Eradication Commission to name Budi as a suspect in a graft case.
