TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta government has temporarily halted the village of row houses program for an evaluation, Jakarta Housing and Administrative Buildings Agency head Ika Lestari Adji said on Monday, January 26, 2015.

According to Ika, the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) founded that the project initiated by former Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has violated the city’s spatial planning since it was built on road traces and rivers.

The Housing Agency is currently monitoring and collecting data for locations that would be appropriate for the project development.

“We will collect data to ensure whether the locations are appropriate [for the project],” Ika said.

Ika added that the project has been halted since last year for the same reason. In addition, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has noted that the funds for the projects, which came from social assistance and grant, are prone to be used as a campaign tool for political parties.

Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saifullah Hidayat said that the Jakarta administration will review the locations that would be appropriate for the project.

“The village of row houses is basically an alternative solution to improve the slum area,” Djarot said on Thursday, January 29, 2015.
