Trade Minister Issues Regulation Banning Alcoholic Beverages

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel has issued a regulation that bans class A liquor, which contains less than five percent of alcohol, from being sold in minimarkets.
According to Widodo, the Director General of Standardization and Consumer Protection at the Trade Ministry, the Trade Minister Regulation No. 06/M-DAG/PER/1/2015, which has been signed by the Minister on January 16, 2015, will enter into force on January 30, 2015. Widodo added that minimarket owners are obliged to withdraw any liquor from their stores three months after the regulation has been issued at the latest.
The regulation applies to nine types of Class A liquor in Indonesia, namely shandy, alcoholic beverage, beer, larger, ale, stout, low alcohol wine, carbonated alcohol beverage, and Balinese brem wine.
