TEMPO.CO, Surabaya – The National Search and Rescue Agency team (Basarnas) will continue evacuating the wreckage and passengers of AirAsia QZ8501 that went missing on Sunday morning. The massive search will be focused on the evacuation of passengers, as instructed by President Joko Widodo.
Basarnas chief Bambang Soelistyo confirmed that debris of the plane were found floating on the Java Sea. He also said that the Navy spotted a shadow with the shape of an airplane at the bottom of the sea.
Yesterday, the search and rescue team evacuated one body of the three found. "We were planning to evacuate all three. But bad weather made it impossible," Indonesian Navy officer A. Dwi Putranto said.
AirAsia flight QZ8501 took off on Sunday morning from Surabaya to Singapore. Air traffic control lost contact with Airbus plane at 6:17 a.m. on Sunday, shortly after the pilot asked to deviate from its path because of bad weather. Its last known location was above the island of Belitung. The plane was carrying 155 passengers and seven crew members. (*)
