TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several days before New Year, Bank Indonesia of Kendari Office has prepared extra Rp1 trillion to anticipate the surge in transactions.
"Although our banks still have a reserve of hundreds of billions of rupiah, as an anticipatory measure, we have prepared Rp1 trillion. And it’s not only for Christmas and New Year but also for other transactions,” said Deputy Chairman of BI Kendari Office, LM. Bahtiar Zaadi.
In addition, Bahtiar said that around Christmas and New Year, residents in Southeast Sulawesi are urged to be more vigilant about the circulation of counterfeit money.
Based on the data from Bank Indonesia, in 2014, at least 3,915 counterfeit paper money with the denomination of Rp100,000 and Rp50,000 were confiscated.
Furthermore, to distinguish between original authentic money and counterfeit money, Bahtiar asked the people to implement the “3D” steps: dilihat, diraba, diterawang,” referring to the government’s program to determine whether or not a note was authentic.
He also called on the people when doing transaction in a big amount, they are advised to do it through non-cash transaction because non-cash transaction is more secure than cash transaction.
