TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Anti Mining Mafia Coalition said the country has a potential loss of Rp4.6 trillion from mining companies' unpaid dues and royalties in the period 2009-2013 in 12 provinces. From 2010 to 2013, there are 4,631 mining permit holders that have yet to pay Rp3.768 trillion in fixed dues (Rp665.6 trillion) and royalties (Rp3.102 trillion).

"This shows that the governance system of mining permit is weak," Maryati Abdullah, coordinator of Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Indonesia, said yesterday.

PWYP is a member of the Anti Mining Mafia Coalition, a group that also lists the Indonesia Corruption Watch and the Indonesian Forum for Budget Transparency among its members.

Director General of Mineral and Coal R. Sukhyar confirmed the Coalition's report. He said that companies with liabilities from before 2014 should have paid their liabilities in October. As for companies with debts from after January 2014, they are given a deadline until December 31. "If they fail to pay in time, we will stop their exports," he said.
