TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - American Airlines Flight 67 from Barcelona, Spain, was evacuated upon landing at New York's JFK Airport on Sunday afternoon following a bomb threat, which necessitated the evacuation of around 200 panicked passengers, who disembarked the aircraft at the far end of the airport.
No suspicious item was found after authorities swept the aircraft in question, Antara News reported.
New York City authorities received a 'tip' from an anonymous caller that said that a bomb had been planted on Flight 67, en route from Barcelona, said an official at JFK Airport, as quoted by NY Post.
The Boeing 767 aircraft was then ordered to initiate an emergency landing sequence at the far end of the airport. All 212 passengers and nine crews were safely evacuated from the aircraft.
"They told us that we need to evacuate immediately and that the crew will take care of our personal belongings," said Jacob Rosenberg, a 37-year-old passenger on Flight 67 who was coming home from vacation, as quoted NY Daily News.
"The aircraft stopped at the side of the runway, and police officers, bomb squad, as well as a K-9 unit immediately climbed aboard while fire engines stood by the aircraft," said an airport official.
