Minister Gobel Meets with Trade Ministers from APEC Countries

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Trade Rachmat Gobel had bilateral meetings with Trade Ministers of a number of Asian Pacific countries namely Malaysia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Korea.


The meetings were done in the sideline of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in in Beijing, China, on Saturday, November 8, 2014.


In each of the meeting, Rachmat said that the cooperation discussed was aimed at reducing poverty rate in Indonesia.


“To reach the goal, he added, cooperation, both at the national and international level, are needed,” Rachmat said in a press statement released by the Trade Ministry on Saturday.


All those cooperation, Rachmat said, must bring benefits and can be felt by the Indonesian people. He also said that the cooperation must also give benefits for Indonesia and its cooperation partners and is based on mutual belief and understanding.


"We are focusing on discussing cooperation on economic issues with those countries,” Rachmat said.


Data from the Trade Ministry shows that trade volume between Indonesia and those five countries in 2013 reached 25.82 percent from the total gas and non-gas trade.


The trade was worth USD54.51 billion, with USD26.84 billion from non-gas export and USD27.67 from the non-gas import.
