TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Rahmat Gobel said he is convinced that Indonesia and other countries in Asia Pacific will strengthen their relationship at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. According to Rahmat, with such relationship, a product made in APEC countries can be cheaper with international standards.

“We believe that if the government crafts proper regulations and provides sufficient training, Indonesian Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) can actively participate in product and design development,” Rahmat said in his press release on Saturday, November 8, 2014.

According to Rahmat the connectivity issue is getting more important because it changes methods of business, trade and investment. Rahmat said efficiency and joint profit will increase if Indonesian SMEs can work together through global value chain and supply chain connectivity. Strong cooperation, Rahmat said, can expand market share, particularly in APEC countries.

At the APEC summit in Beijing, three main issues are being discussed by APEC state members, namely improving regional economic integration, promoting innovative development, economic and growth reform and strengthening connectivity and infrastructure development.
