TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo is scheduled to announce the composition of his cabinet sometimes in late afternoon in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. However, Jokowi stopped short of revealing the exact time and location of the announcement.
"The time and place will be announced soon. It could be in Pluit, Tanah Abang, or maybe Tanjung Priok. The announcement will be made either in late afternoon or early evening," said Jokowi as he left the Governor's House in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Jokowi also declined to release any details about the number of ministries that he would create under his administration. Previously, Jokowi had said that his cabinet would consist of 33 ministries and three state agencies equivalent with ministerial status.
Out of the 33 posts, 18 posts are to be filled by professional and technocrats, and the remaining 15 will be occupied by political appointees. Four people will assume office as coordinating ministers, while 29 others will take the post of ministers. Sixteen ministries under the old cabinet will be retained, seven will be re-named, while five ministries will be merged and three new ministries will be established.
On Sunday, Jokowi received the results of the investigation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) into the 43 names that had been proposed as potential ministerial candidates under his administration.
According to the results, a number of candidates were crossed out due to suspicions of shady dealings, corrupt practices, as well as ownership of suspicious offshore and/or unreported affiliated bank accounts.
