TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama made another breakthrough at the City Hall after Joko "Jokowi" Widodo left the Jakarta governor position. The measure was taken in relation to the financial management at suku dinas (lower ranking officer) level.

"In the future, lower ranking officials will not be allowed to spend money on procurement," Ahok said at City Hall on Tuesday, October 21, 2014.

According to Ahok, budget plans will be handled by officials on levels similar to Mayor, while suku dinas will carry out the technical works.

Ahok explained that the policy is aimed at preventing redundancy of similar projects being carried out by different institutions, such as road repair project, being carried out by agencies and suku dinas.

Officials at district and village levels will be also prohibited to handle money. Instead, they will be prepared to provide services for public.

If the policy could be implemented, Ahok said, supervision tasks would be easier and programs would be well-planned.
