OJK Continues to Expand Domestic Banks Abroad

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) continued its efforts to expand domestic banks abroad.
OJK has also worked with several countries outside South East Asia and have even signed a Memorandum of Understanding with some of those countries.
"Outside ASEAN countries, we have been cooperating with Japan and China. With China, the cooperation is at pre-MOU stage. With Japan, we have signed an MoU although it is still at the scope of technical cooperation," said OJK International Director at Bank of Indonesia, Jakarta, October 10, 2014.
According to Triyono, the agreement that has been made with Japan includes not only technicalities but also capacity building and information exchange.
"However, he said that the cooperation has covered all sectors banks, non-banking financial institutors, consumers protection, and more,” Triyono said.
Discussion with Japan, Triyono added, includes exchanges of information about how to develop supervision within OJK.
Furthermore, among several agenda and matters discussed, discussion about sharia banks were also talked about.
