LIPI: E-voting Can Help Save Electoral Budget

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Political expert from the Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI) Ikrar Nusa Bhakti said that electronic voting system can suppress electoral budget. "It is efficient, both on budget and time," he said.

Ikrar said that e-voting will help cut conventional election budget, particularly because there will be no printing budget. "E-voting can also trim the number of electoral officials on the field," he said.

Moreover, he said that government’s rejecting the system is merely based on unreasonable fear. "Government fears that the system is hacked and votes are manipulated, despite the fact that Indonesia has tons of tech geniuses and security standard," he said.

E-voting can also serve as a solution to the revision of regional election bill. The Merah Putih coalition has been attempting to question the bill, especially on budget sector.
