TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Chairman of the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla Transition Team, Akbar Faisal, said that it requires Rp31 trillion to build a huge and rapid sea-transportation system, which Jokowi calls a ‘seaway toll’.

The funds, he said, is to be used to finish 63 projects within the system.

"The focus is to revamp seaports and matters related to shipping,” he told Tempo, Friday, September 12, 2014.

Akbar added that the funds would also be used to revamp the country’s shipping industries that need improvement. In addition, he said that there would be eight major seaports to be built like Tanjung Priok seaport.

In the future, he said, 22 seaports will be improved, starting from Kuala Tanjung until Sorong in Papua.

"We expect to complete the projects in five years. In the first three months, we will be focused on the regulations; afterwards, we will be focusing on the infrastructures,” he said.

Revamping of seaports in Indonesia is one of the in the Acceleration and Expansion of the Indonesian Economy (MP3EI).
