SBY to Officially Open Sepinggan Airport

TEMPO.CO, Balikpapan - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), along with a number of ministers, next Monday, September 15, are slated to attend the inauguration ceremony of Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.


The inauguration will become the peak event of the renovation of the biggest airport in Kalimantan, which uses a budget of Rp2 trillion.


"The President will inaugurate the grand opening of Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan," spokesman of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I, Handy Heryudhitiawan confirmed this morning.


Handy said the ceremony would be attended by around 1,000 guests, both from the Central Government and the East Kalimantan provincial government.


The inauguration ceremony will be centered in the parking area of the fifth floor of the airport, which is also the highest floor of the building.


Handy noted that the President will also put his signature on an inscription that marks the inauguration of the airport.


In addition to inaugurating the opening of the airport, President SBY is also scheduled to inaugurate 17 projects in the scheme of MP3EI located in East Kalimantan.


The event involves the State Palace protocol, the East Kalimantan provincial government, and the Balikpapan city government.


The inauguration ceremony is expected to be attended by a number of ministers including Coordinating Minister for the Economic Affairs Chairul Tanjung, East Kalimantan Governor, and several Ambassadors.
