TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Employment Agency head I Made Karmayoga said that the Jakarta administration would remove deputy head agency posts because they had been proven useless, as reported by Antara News.

He added that Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo would implement such a plan before sending his resignation letter to City Council.

“Agency heads do not need deputies to manage their offices. Many institutions can perform well although they do not have deputy heads,” he said on Thursday at City Hall.

Moreover, he said that Jokowi would remove some positions at the III and IV echelon level.

“If a regional regulation [perda] has been approved, it would remove thousands of positions, especially in echelon III and IV,” he said.

He explained that Jokowi made the regulation in a bid to balance the city’s budget, as it would decrease the number of public servant positions from 8,009 to 6,826.

During his tenure as governor, Jokowi has frequently made budget-saving measures. For example, his decision to appoint Lasro Marbun last year to lead the Education Agency could end up saving the city some Rp2 trillion.
