TEMPO.CO, Malang – A magazine promoting the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’s (ISIS) is now circulating on Java Island. The magazine, Al-Mustaqbal, is trying to entice readers with fried chicken vouchers.
A report by Daily Mail on Sunday, August 10, 2014 said the magazine’s third issue released in July was themed “Secrets behind the Islamic State”. The magazine, wrote in Bahasa, featured a man with an ISIS flag on its cover.
Al-mustaqbal.net website said the magazine, which explores the history, development and beliefs of ISIS is recommended for “those who really want to know about ISIS,” and promises to answer circulating rumors on the group.
On its pages, a series of photos of ISIS militias in battle are highlighted, including those who just executed a line of what appears to be children’s bodies.
ISIS has reportedly used a mosque in a hamlet in Sempu, Malang, as its headquarters and is now calling itself Ansharul Khilafah.
Aji Prase, a Malang resident, told Jakarta Globe that he was keeping his eyes open to the possible spread of ISIS ideology, adding that Al-Mustaqbal was distributed via social media.
“I was tagged on Facebook about the report on the founding of Ansharul Khilafah. My friends and I then decided to go to the mosque. There we saw a video screening and listened to preaching about ISIS,” Aji said.
“They also distributed Al-Mustaqbal magazines, brochures, and fried chicken vouchers.”
