TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Education Department is going to standardize school days and time of national-standard schools and regular schools. Previously, the national-standard schools only operate for five days from Monday to Friday, while regular schools are six days, later on, all schools will operate for six days from Monday to Saturday, as reported by Antara News.
Head of Jakarta Education Department, Lasro Marbun, said that in the 2013 curriculum which just being implemented, there are huge volumes for school subjects to learn. Thus, school days must be adjusted. If remained five days, the students may have to learn in school until 4 PM.
“The volume of the 2013 curriculum is a lot. If we pushed it only until Friday, the students may go home in the afternoon (if the school operates in one shift) or in the evening (if the school operates in two shifts). Meanwhile, they also got home works that must be done. So, we arrange it so schools operate until Saturday,” he stated, Friday.
According to Marbun, with extra school day, the schools only operate until 2 PM (for one-shift schools) and 5 PM (for two-shift schools). As for extracurricular activities, one-shift schools can do it on Saturday, while two-shift schools can arrange it from Monday to Saturday.
