TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Medecins Sans Frontieres stated in a press release that a truce finally had taken place in Gaza on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. Local residents have also started to resume their daily activities. "A new 72-hour truce was declared yesterday morning. Until then, I had been sceptical about truces, as previous ones had barely been observed. But, this time, the Israeli army announced its withdrawal from the Gaza Strip," said Michele Beck, medical team leader for the MSF as stated in the press release dated August 6, 2014.

Last Friday, the MSF have attempted to send medical teams to Khan Younis, a region in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. However, the team was forced to turn back as fighting continue to take place.

"Since Friday, Nasser hospital in Khan Younis has received large numbers of wounded because of the renewed fighting in Rafah, a little further south," Beck added.

With the truce taking place, MSF finally able to send a team that consists of a surgeon, an anaesthetist and a logistician to Khan Younis. The team immediately do their work and tend to the wounded.
