TEMPO.CO, Gaza – Israel on Thursday attacked a UN-run school at Beit Hanou, the Gaza Strip, killing at least 15 people and wounding around 200 others.

UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon said he was appalled by the attack and urged Israel and Hamas to immediately stop their conflict and start a peace dialogue.

"I was shocked and appalled by what has happened in Beit Hanoun. It is totally unacceptable,” Ban said in Cairo, before a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry.

A senior Israeli military spokesman, Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, said the damages on that school were caused by rockets fired by Hamas. “We do not target schools, and we do not target the UN,” said Lerner.

UN high commissioner for human rights Navi Pillay said Israel has committed a war crime for attacking indiscriminately.

Based on reports from CBS, the school had received a warning that there would be strikes from Israel. When asked about this, the Israeli military only said they would investigate the incident.

Entering the second week of the aggression, around 750 palestinians have been killed due to Israel’s assault while Israel reported 32 deaths because of attacks by Hamas.
