TEMPO.CO, Mosul - The city of Mosul, Iraq has been seized by the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL). The group seized control of government buildings, prisons, television stations, and the Ghizlani military base south of Mosul. The group had even release a large number of prisoners from prison.

As reported by the Associated Press yesterday, the Shia militia who is closely connected with Al-Qaeda has set free 1400 prisoners from the city prisons.

Al Jazeera reported that pro-ISIL twitter account tweeted that the militia has freed 3000 prisoners from 3 prisons. Armed with automatic rifles, anti aircraft rockets, and grenade launchers, the group managed to subdue the guards.

Mosul, the capital of the Nineveh province located 350 kilometers north of Baghdad became the second city seized by the ISIL militia this year. Not long before, they managed to seize the city of Falujjah from the Iraqi government.
