TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coral Triangle Council of Ministers/CT-COM, is set to have a meeting in Manado, North Sulawesi on May 15, Antara News reported. The council consists of Environment Ministers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Island, and Timor Leste.

The six countries are members of 'Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security' (CTI-CFF), a multilateral cooperation to manage the threats to marine resources in the regions considered as the heart of world’s marine biodiversity.
"The fifth Ministerial Meeting (MM-5) scheduled on May 15 will address issues related to various aspects of establishment, operation plan, budgeting, and the main staffs for the permanent office of CTI-CFF Regional Secretariat," said Anang Nugroho, the Chief of Coordination Mechanisms Working Group of CTI-CFF, as quoted by Antara News.
For now, all of CTI-CFF operations are serviced at the Interim regional Secretariat (IRS) in Jakarta, and also run by Indonesian government. The IRS is expected to be transitioned into permanent secretariat this year.
On May 13, the Indonesian government together with partners of CTI-CFF will also launch the Coral Triangle Marine Protected Area System (CTMPAS). The system is expected to realize marine regions which is strongly interconnected and protected from threats.
