TEMPO.CO, Semarang - The government confirmed that the construction of the Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang begin in May 2014. The decision was made in a coordination meeting between government agencies attended by Vice President Boediono in Semarang on Thursday, April 24, 2014.
"Next week at the latest, in May to be precise, the ground breaking will be conducted," said Henry Bakti, Director General of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation.
He admitted that the plan had experienced several delays. Henry stated that there will be no more delays because the Ministry of Finance has revised the government regulation that manages the country's assets. "We guarantee that there won't be any problems. Everything will be fine because the land utilization is controlled by the country through the Minister of Finance," said Henry.
Minister of Finance Muhammad Chatib Basri, said that the development concept for the Ahmad Yani Airport has been finished. "Including the calculations [of costs and compensations], we are still waiting for the legal aspect that has been mentioned by the Vice President," said Chatib.
Chatib also stated that revisions on the government regulation will be done quickly to provide a legal framework for the airport’s development.
