TEMPO.CO, Conakry - Ebola virus cases that occurred in recent months in Guinea and Liberia has killed 142 people, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Quoted from CNN on Wednesday, WHO said that Guinea has reported 208 cases of Ebola infection, 136 of which resulted in fatalities. Liberia, on the other hand, reported 34 cases with six fatalities.

This was the first occurrence of Ebola infection in the western part of Africa, which is why doctors and health officials in the region do not have any experience in handling the virus.

According to WHO, there is still no vaccine for Ebola virus. The virus was first discovered in Sudan and Congo in 1976. It is suspected to be transmited to human from sick animals such as chimpanzee, gorilla, monkey, forest antelope and fruit bat.

Ebola is one of the most deadly virus in the world with 90 percent fatality rate. It spreand in the blood and shuts down the immune system, causing high fever, headache and muscle pain, often accompanied with bleeding.
