TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta International School (JIS) principal Timothy Carr has dismissed allegations that he suggested the parents of a sexually-abused JIS student not to tell the press and police about the case. He said that the school had never barred the parents of its students from speaking of anything.

"They have the right to speak before the press and police," Carr said in a press conference on Monday, April 22, 2014. He later explained that JIS would not conceal anything related to the case and protect the identity and the rights of the victim.

Carr claimed the school has attempted to meet the suggestions from the police, the Children Protection Commission (KPA), and other institutions. "We have nothing to hide," he said repeatedly.

Earlier, the mother of the molested student told the press that the school sent an e-mail to other parents whose children were enrolled at JIS that the parents were required to secure the school’s consent prior to speaking publicly about the case. JIS has been in the public spotlight following news that one of its kindergarten students had been subjected to rape by the school’s outsourced janitors.
