TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Syrian plan to hold a presidential election on June 3 has been condemned by UN chief Ban Ki-moon, saying that the election amid civil war could worsen the situation.

As reported by BBC News on Monday, April 21, 2014, Ki-moon warned that the move could damage the political process of Syria conflict that has killed 150,000 deaths and millions of refugees.

The US government has also echoed similar voice. US state department spokesperson Jen Psaki said the election would be a "parody of democracy" with unclear credibility.

"Calling for a de-facto referendum rings especially hollow no as the regime continues to massacre the very electorate it purports to represent," Psaki said as reported by BBC News.

The UK Foreign Ministry predicted the election would only secure Bashar al-Assad's regime. They are convinced that if Syria insisted to hold the election, Assad would be reelected for the third seven-year term.
