TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Enny Sri Hartati, Economist at the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance lamented the resignation of Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan.
According to Enny, seeing the current economic condition, Gita should have been focused on solving those economic problems.
With so many natural disasters happening in several regions recently, coordination among several related parties, including the Ministry of Trade, solutions are needed to solve the issues.
"With so many disasters, the distribution of food has been disrupted. He should have improved them first," Enny said on Saturday, February 1, 2014.
She also feared that Gita's resignation could give negative impacts for the economy, especially the trade sector.
Another thing that Enny regretted about Gita's resignation was that his resignation came when the Vietnamese illegal rice import case emerged. She said that if the case is not immediately solved, it could give bad impacts for the condition of food supply in the country because the price of rice is very sensitive to so many issues.
In general, she further said that if compared to the leadership of Mari Elka Pangestu, Enny said that the condition of Indonesia's trade sector under the helm of Gita Wirjawan was slightly worse.
She said that the factor of Gita's background as an entrepreneur made his policies prone to conflict of interests, or even political interests. It was different from Mari Elka, who is not an entrepreneur, she said.
"Whoever the minister will definitely be vulnerable to political interests," she said.
