TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The extreme weather is estimated to reduce 50 percent of fish production of large ships that meausres 30 gross tonnage (GT).
"For small ships with the size of five to 10 GT, production drops 100 percent because they could not catch any fish at all," Achmad Purnomo, Head of Research and Development at the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (Ministry), said in Jakarta yesterday.
Poernomo said that large ships can still operate because they possesses data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency and the Ministry, while small ships cwan only obtain information about the weather from ports.
The government however, is optimistic that the decrasing production of the fishery sector within the last one month will not reduce the country's total annual fish production.
