TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- At least 7 people, including children, were killed while 11 others were injured in a bomb attack near a police van in a province southwest of Pakistan.

The police van, which was located in the Charsadda District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, was prepared by security forces to distribute polio vaccine for local citizens.

Senior Pakistani Police official Saeed Wazir, said that the bomb exploded not far from the Sardheri Market on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. The bomb, which estimated to weigh approximately 4 to 5 kilogram, was rigged to a motorcycle. At least 6 police officers were killed in the explosion.

Saeed stated that the bomb was detonated using a remote detonator, while the target was the van carrying the police officers who were escorting the health workers that were distributing polio vaccinations in the Charsadda District.

ZahidUllah, a senior official in a hospital run by the Charsadda government, added that "at least 8 people were injured in the attack." The attack occurred following an earlier attack on Karachi, which killed polio vaccine officers on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.
