Volvo, Sweden Government Integrate to Create Autonomous Cars

TEMPO.CO, Gothenburg - Swedish automotive brand Volvo is set to test its driver-less vehicle in 2017. The autonomous 'Drive Me' project will take on the streets of Gothenburg for 50 kilometers. The major-scale tryout is designed to meet the free-accident target.
The government-endorsed project basically aims to explore the social benefit of driver-less car such as avoiding accident. Hakan Samuelsson, President and CEO Volvo Car Group, stated that the car is an integrated part of Volvo Cars and Swedish Government vision.
The tested cars will be using XC90-basis, fully-equipped with sensor, camera and GPS for traffic analysis and navigation. Volvo ensures that autonomous cars will help the users enjoy the safe riding while doing other activities like making a phone call or relaxing.
