TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini is proud that one of the parks in her city won an international award for the 2013 Asian Townscape Sector Award from the United Nations on Tuesday. This prestigious award was received by the mayor in Fukuoka, Japan.
This award was also backed by the UN Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, Asia Habitat Society, Asia Townscape Design Society, and the Fukuoka Asia Urban Research Center.
Surabaya’s Bungkul Park is the only park in Indonesia to win this award.
Risma said that although the nation may have more beautiful looking parks, the social, cultural, recreational and educational function of Bungkul Park stands out the most.
Bungkul Park, she added, is a symbol of beauty and equality as "there are no differences between the rich and the poor or even toddlers and seniors". The mayor continued to say how her "miniature dream is at Bengkulu Park".
The 10,000 square meter park is complete with various facilities, such as a jogging track, children’s playground, skateboard arena, and Wi-Fi internet access. The park is also the perfect place for citizens to socialize with one another.
